GORDON SMITH: PASTOR
Gordon
received a BA in psychology from the University of Louisville in the
mid 70's, after which he and his wife Mindy accepted a two year
assignment in Kenya with the Journeymen Mission Program. While in
Africa, the Smiths were involved with music, youth, preaching, and
teaching English.
In 1980, Gordon received a Masters of
Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and
subsequently served as co-pastor of the Vine Baptist Church in
Louisville, KY. The Smiths moved to Elkhart, IN, where they were part
of the intentional Christian community, Fellowship of Hope, for five
years, and where Gordon served as Community Administrator for a time.
During their time in Indiana, Gordon worked with the Assoc. of the
Disabled of Elkhart County (ADEC), was team leader for a sheltered
workshop, was editor for Coming Together, a Shalow Covenant
community magazine, taught preschool for the Fellowship of Hope,
provided consulting services and office management, and served on the
board of directors of Hope Builders. Throughout this time, Gordon
continued his studies and received a Masters of Theology degree from
Notre Dame.
After moving to Denver in the early 1990's, Gordon
taught Bible and Greek at the University of Denver and Iliff School of
Theology. The Smith family joined the Peace Mennonite Church, Aurora,
CO, in its early years where Gordon helped provide church leadership
and chaired the Building Committee during construction of the church.
In
1998 the Smiths received a call to pastor Faith Church, where Gordon
assumed his current position on Sept. 1 of that year. Gordon received a
Ph.D in Biblical Studies from the University of Denver & Iliff
School of Theology in 2001. Gordon and Mindy have two children, Jared
